What changes?

Three things to get used to.

01

Keep digital records.

Income and business expenses need to be kept digitally using a compatible setup.

01
02

Update HMRC quarterly.

Information from your records is sent to HMRC during the year using compatible software.

02
03

Finish the tax year.

You still complete the required year-end tax process and pay the tax that is due.

03

Keep it manageable

MTD should fit around your business.

01

Capture things as you go

Photograph receipts and keep the information flowing digitally.

02

Keep records current

Regular bookkeeping stops everything becoming a year-end project.

Know what comes next

Clear support means fewer surprises when quarterly deadlines arrive.

The things worth knowing before you start.

No. Qualifying income is based on gross self-employment and property income before expenses, rather than your final profit.

HMRC looks at qualifying income when deciding whether you fall within MTD. If your situation involves more than one source of income, Lisa can help you understand how your records need to be organised.

Yes. Quarterly updates do not remove the year-end tax process. You still need to complete the required tax return and pay tax due by the relevant deadline.

MTD requires compatible software to keep digital records and send the required information to HMRC. MTD Complete can help you establish a suitable digital bookkeeping routine.

You do not need to wait until everything is perfectly organised to ask for help. Start with where you are now and build a clearer system from there.
